The Berthelot family has been dedicated to raising goats since the 1970s. The family's farm is situated in Sougé, France. The 4th generation runs the farm.
Starting with 60 goats, their herd expanded to 300 by 2001. In 2007 they expanded to 600 goats, and currently they have 900 goats. With the expansion of their farm through a new building their target herd is 1.200 Saanen goats.
Goat milk for Valençay
The Berthlelot family supplies milk to Fromagerie Jacquin. French AOP cheese Valençay is made from their goat milk. The requirements for supplying milk for the cheese Valençay are very comprehensive and strict. The Berthlelot family does all this while also cultivating 700 hectares of alfalfa and grain.

With the start of the construction of the new stable to accommodate the 1200 goats, they needed a new milking system to replace their old milking rotary which had become too small.
The Berthelot family heard about the 2RO and without a doubt or seeing the equipment they decided that they wanted a 2RO on their farm. Their choice was later on strengthened with a visit to the Wiarda-Galama farm in the Netherlands. They saw the 2RO in action and were able to ask the farmer many questions.
The quality of the 2RO platform, the wide entrance for the goats, the simplicity of the Quick Up system and the low maintenance were the main reasons to choose the 2RO.
Exceeding milk quality and quantity goals
The Berthelot family is very satisfied with the 2RO's performance and service. The primary aim of the new milking system was to provide milking comfort and efficiency for their growing herd.
When we asked the farmer, Olivier Berthelot, what has changed since he has the 2RO he responded with ‘What a gain on milking and milk quality!’ thus Olivier Berthelot.
Since the 2RO was installed, the goals for milk quality and quantity have been exceeded. Achieving 900 goat milkings in 1 hour 25 minutes and maintaining low cell counts. Since installing the 2RO, cell counts have significantly decreased to between 1.4 and 1.5 million.
‘I am completely satisfied with the machine, the service and the performance’ thus farmer Olivier Berthelot.
The Berthelot family started milking with a 2RO with 80 places in August 2023. The installation was done by DB Elevage with the cooperation of SAC France and SAC Netherlands.
