The balanced counterweight positions the milk tube so that it does not touch the pit edge. Simultaneously, the arm moves the tube forward, ensuring that the milking cluster hangs squarely under the cow. If the cow moves, the tubes move with it, and the balance arm ensures optimal milking with minimal stress on the teats.
